Mr. M.G. Lalith Ananda Assumes Duties as the New District Secretary / Government Agent of Ratnapura

Mr. M.G. Lalith Ananda (Sri Lanka Administrative Service-Special Grade) officially assumed duties as the new District Secretary / Government Agent of Ratnapura District on the morning of May 25, 2026, at the District Secretariat. The assumption of duties ceremony was held at an auspicious time amid the blessings of the Maga sangha.

Possessing extensive experience in the field of administration, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Ruhuna, and a Master of Public Administration degree from Flinders University, Australia. He has also completed a Diploma in Human Rights at the Institute of Human Rights, Colombo. Mr.Lalith Ananda joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 2000. He embarked on his administrative career as an Assistant Divisional Secretary at the Lahugala and Damana Divisional Secretariats in the Ampara District, serving from 2001 to 2004, and later served as the Assistant Commissioner of Elections of the Monaragala District from 2004 to 2007. Thereafter he served several key administrative positions including Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Defense, an Assistant Controller at the Department of Imports and Exports Control, and Senior Assistant Secretary/Director at the Department of Management Services under the Ministry of Finance.

Between 2014 and 2017, he served as a Director at the Sri Lanka Customs. He thereafter served as a Deputy Commissioner of Elections at the Election Commission from 2017 to 2018, and in Vavuniya from 2019 to 2021. From 2021 until January 2026, Mr. Lalith Ananda served as a Revenue Officer at the City Council in Australia. He is a senior administrative officer possessing extensive national and international experience across multiple sectors of administration.

The ceremony was attended by the Maha Sangha, including Ven. Delwala Muditha Thero, Chief Incumbent of the Sri Sangharaja Viharaya at Ratnapura New Town and Chief Secretary of the Ratnapura Regional Sasanarakshaka Mandalaya. Senior government officials present included Additional District Secretaries Mrs. Gayani I. Karunaratne and Mr. Amila Wijeratne together with Divisional Secretaries of the Ratnapura District and staff members of the Ratnapura District Secretariat.
